Mysuru District, Karnataka
- Time needed
- 1 night / 2 days
- Distance
- 145 km away
- Entry
- Palace entry ₹70 (₹200 for Sunday illumination evenings); other sites vary
- Best time
- October for Dasara, or Nov – Feb generally
Mysuru Palace is the obvious centrepiece — a 1912 Indo-Saracenic structure lit with close to 100,000 bulbs on Sunday evenings and through Dasara — but the city rewards a full two days rather than a rushed palace-and-back trip. Chamundi Hill overlooks the city with its own temple and the large Nandi statue partway up, and Devaraja Market is one of the better fresh-produce and flower markets in South India.
October's Dasara festival, when the palace hosts a procession with decorated elephants and the whole city leans into the celebration, is genuinely worth planning a trip around if your dates allow — book accommodation months ahead, since this is when the city is busiest and priciest.
Highlights
- Mysuru Palace, illuminated Sunday evenings and during Dasara
- Chamundi Hill temple and viewpoint
- Devaraja fresh produce and flower market
- Dasara elephant procession, held every October
Good to know
- Book the Sunday evening illumination visit in advance if your trip lines up — it's the single best photo opportunity in the city
- Mysuru Pak, the ghee sweet, is genuinely from here — buy it from Guru Sweet Mart or Sri Krishna Sweets rather than a random stall
- Dasara season means premium hotel pricing and heavy crowds — book well ahead or consider visiting just before/after the festival
