Manchinabele dam backs up the Arkavathi into a wide, calm reservoir that a handful of local operators now use for kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and overnight lakeside camping. It's quieter and less commercially developed than the bigger adventure hubs, which is part of the appeal if you want water sports without the crowds of, say, Ramanagara.
Water levels vary meaningfully by season and by how much has been released for irrigation downstream, so it's worth confirming with an operator that kayaking is actually running before you drive out, particularly in the dry months of April and May.
Highlights
- Kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding on the reservoir
- Lakeside camping run by registered local operators
- Quieter alternative to more commercial adventure spots
- Views of the surrounding Ramanagara hill country
Good to know
- Confirm water levels with the operator before driving out — reservoir depth varies by season
- Book camping packages a few days ahead on weekends, capacity is limited
- Bring a change of clothes; there's no proper changing facility at most access points
