Commercial Street

- Entry
- Free entry
- Best time
- Weekday evenings, avoid Sunday crowds
Commercial Street is narrow, crowded, and entirely pedestrian-unfriendly in the way old Indian market streets tend to be, which is part of the appeal. It's strongest for export-surplus clothing, footwear and costume jewellery, with fixed-price stores mixed in among stalls where bargaining is expected and part of the transaction.
The side lanes off the main street, particularly toward Russell Market, tend to have better prices than the frontage shops that see the most foot traffic. Cash still moves faster than cards at the smaller stalls, even though most now accept UPI.
Highlights
- Export-surplus clothing and footwear stalls
- Costume jewellery and bangle shops
- Side lanes toward Russell Market for better prices
- Street food carts at the Shivaji Nagar end
Good to know
- Bargain at unmarked stalls — start around 40% below the quoted price
- Avoid Sunday evenings unless you enjoy shoulder-to-shoulder crowds
- Nearby paid parking lots fill fast; autos are easier than driving in yourself
