Bannerghatta combines a conventional zoo with a lion and tiger safari you drive through in a caged bus, plus a butterfly park and a rescue and rehabilitation centre for elephants that also runs limited elephant interaction sessions. It's genuinely large enough that trying to see everything in one visit means moving briskly between zones.
The safari buses run on a queue system and each zone (herbivore, lion, tiger, bear) is ticketed separately at extra cost on top of base entry, so budget for it going in rather than being surprised at the counter. Weekday visits cut the queue time roughly in half compared to weekends.
Highlights
- Drive-through lion and tiger safari in a caged bus
- Butterfly park with over 20 species
- Elephant rescue and rehabilitation centre
- Reptile house and a small natural history museum
Good to know
- Buy safari zone tickets first thing — the lion and tiger safari queues get long by 11am
- Carry water; shaded seating between zones is limited
- The elephant interaction session needs separate advance booking, not available at the gate
